Heard about this site from another online support group I belong to on abuse. There are however specific issues about counseling that I dont always feel I want to post there, so I'm happy to have found you all.

In a nutshell, I am in an abusive marriage of 30 years which has included alcoholism, Emotional and some physical abuse. I have been in counseling for 3 years. First with an alcohol counselor to help me deal with my husbands drinking, and then I moved on to therapy with a psychologist I see weekly. I also see a psychiatrist for medications. My primary diagnosis' are anxiety, PTSD, depression. As I am still with my husband, although now sober, I suffer the effects of so many years with him. I am afraid to leave him and feel trapped. I hope to gain insight into how counseling can better help me.

Hi lizzygirl,
Welcome to the forums! I'm fascinated to hear that word is spreading about the place. Smiler I am glad to hear that you are getting help and making progress so that you are now sober, not an easy achievement. 30 years in an abusive marriage is a lot of trauma to handle, I hope you can find the answers and support you're looking for here. It's a really great community with a lot of very insightful, supportive people. And if there's one thing we get, it's struggling in therapy. Razzer Please feel free to jump in and ask any questions you have, I'm looking forward to getting to know you.

Thanks for the welcome! I just wanted to
clarify, my husband is the alcoholic and has gotten sober through counseling and AA, I am not an alcoholic. Anxiety is the devil I deal with. Well, and my husband, sometimes sweet as pie, others the devil incarnate.

This is large site...after checking it out,
not sure where to be posting. Can anyone tell me which forum to use for what? Like I'm interested in people's experience with EMDR. Where do I post about it? Thanks.

Hi Lizzygirl,
If you look at the main page on the forum there's a brief discussion of what each section is for but we're not all that formal. Take your best shot at where it fits and that will be fine. You'll be happy to know there's no thread police who will come after you! Big Grin

All that said, a discussion of emdr would probably fit best under Questions about being in therapy or Science of Psychology.
