Please take my survey for psych class :-) Login/Join

Is it acceptable for me to request for volunteers here to participate in an online survey/test on prejudice as part of a required project I am doing for a grade in my psychology class? I was hoping I could get at least 10 people to take it.
Just wondering if someone knows the answer, without me taking time to scour the fine print somewhere. I won't post the link to the survey or the specifics until I know for sure if its ok...

Cipher,
That would be fine and in no way violates posting guidelines. Good luck with your research!

A Native American elder once described his own inner struggles in this manner:

"Inside of me there are two dogs. One of the dogs is mean and evil. The other dog is good. The mean dog fights the good dog all the time."

When asked which dog wins, he reflected for a moment and replied, "The one I feed the most."

Thank you, AG (and Liese in advance Smiler ).

Here's how you participate:

1. Go to this website: https://implicit.harvard.edu/i.../demo/takeatest.html

You must read the disclaimer that you may not agree with your results, and then click on "I wish to proceed":

2. You get to choose from 14 prejudice tests which one you want to take. Please choose one in which you think you have little to no prejudice, and the test will attempt to verify or disagree with your assessment.

3. After you complete the test, please PM me your answer to these questions.

(1) Which test you took & what your results were,
(2) Rate how accurate you believe your results were. Use a scale of 1 to 5...

1=completely bogus, 2=mostly false, 3=halfway true, 4=mostly true, 5=completely true.

Disclosure: It will take 10 to 15 minutes of your time if you participate. I only need you to take a demo test (not the study). Personally, I don't care what your results are or whether they will be accurate, but for my homework I need to collect the data and report ANONYMOUS results. I promise not to associate your forum ID's with your responses, as I think telling my psych professor that I come here to be way too much information about myself! That's it. Thank you!!!

Hey Cipher, I took it and it WAS fun. I chose the test that deterimined whether or not I had a preference for heavy people or thin people. And I didn't at all. That's what I predicted so I was so happy the results were consistent with what I thought about myself.

I am editing this to add that I just saw that I was supposed to PM you the results. Sorry.

Cipher,

I was going to do a test, but I don't think I qualify as I am not American - is the test about assessing opinions of Americans? Pls advise

Hey thanks for helping me out! I took two of the demo tests and thought it was kinda fun too. I took the one on thin/heavy people and the one on preferences for straight/gay people.

Somedays, for my purposes it doesn't matter if you are American or not. Although if you are not a native English speaker then theoretically you could be at a slight disadvantage. But this assignment I am doing isn't required to be a truly random sample, hence why I am inviting you all to participate!

I completed it, prior to considering the association with not being American... PM inbound.

The survey is at the church with your neighbor. Laugh Okay, I hope you found that funny! I couldn't resist.

DF,

I took the religious one, too. Smiler I was trying to figure out something about the results. Was there any meaning as to where the religions landed vertically in relation to the positive/negative line on the side? Or is it only the order they were in that mattered? For instance, mine were all close together in the middle of the chart like this:

Christianity Islam
Judaism
Hinduism

If I had expressed more preference for one religion over another, would they have been more spread out? Does this mean I am fairly neutral towards all those world religions?

Very sorry if this is hijacking, I've just been trying to figure out how to actually read the results, now that I took the test. Smiler Hope this makes some sense.

HIC no one has hacked the thread! silliness Roll Eyes Wink In answer to your question about the whether it is possible for the results to display more spread out, i am not sure! I took a political test (it was under the study tab, not the demo tab) but it was measuring whether you identify more with a particular party or more as an American in general, and my results were all bunched together close in the middle too. But then, I sort of expected it to be that way because I don't see myself at an extreme end of anything politically.
I am glad that several of you have had fun with this survey. BB, I hope you figured it out. But I have to admit that I don't even get Liese's joke. I'm generally an airhead when it comes to jokes. Do I even want to know? Eeker

(((BB))))

I know what I said didn't make sense AT ALL. I don't even know why I thought it was funny. There was absolutely no humor in it. After I posted it, I thought, oh gosh, that didn't make sense at all.

I've always had a little trouble with humor. Okay, a lot of trouble.
