hey all,
I'm Toby, of mes and company... we call ourselves 'mes' which is the body's initials. I hope that makes sense? I'm a teenager guy, and I'm finding myself 'out' quite a bit nowadays as things inside are a bit crazy! I'm new to this forum thing. Actually, i've never talked to our T but I'm thinking about it. I just don't want her tothink i'm an idiot.

Hi Toby, it is nice to meet you (although I already said that in the other post before I read this one)
Welcome!

I still worry about my T thinking I'm an idiot too. I worry about what she thinks of me all the time, but the more I trust her and say things to her I find that she does not think badly of me at all. That is only me who thinks that way. But take your time and speak up when you are ready. I am glad you spoke up here. Smiler

Would any of YOU mind if I ask a question if anyone feels comfortable answering:

When you recognize a new indentity, who decides on a name? Is it already given and announced at that time or is it a process?

I hope that is not a stupid question. (See Toby-I worry about sounding stupid ALL the time)

Hi Toby, and welcome, I'm honored you decided to talk to us. BTW, I love the word play in "mes."
And JM is right, we all worry about sounding like an idiot, so you're in good company. But from what I know about your T, she's not going to think that. I think she would be happy to talk with you. I know I am.

Oh, and I don't think you sound like an idiot. Smiler

Hi Toby!!

Welcome, I am rather new here but it is a great place. No one here judges anyone here, and no one is ever an idiot.

"When you recognize a new indentity, who decides on a name? Is it already given and announced at that time or is it a process?"

That's an interesting question, some of us have changed our names in part of a process (for example, a fellow who was called 'skull' inside changed his name to 'skill'; and 'savage' changed his to 'sav') Some names were what the abusers called us ('savage' I believe was one of those), some names were chosen to remind us of someone we liked ('Joan', for a Mrs. Jones we knew), some of us just had names but we don't know how they came about (like Scott). My name, Toby, was one of those. Curio we named because he was 'curious', Guy we changed from Hallowe'en Guy into just guy, and Robin chose hers (she's a merger from Carol and Susie, though we don't know where those names came from; Antoni is a merger between Toni and NoName)

The term 'new identity' is a curious one for me. We have all been around for years, the body doesn't create anyone new, but some people are just hiding deeper than others.

Thanks Toby. I don't know much about DID so I try to learn more so that I can understand the new friends I meet. Your explanation was easy for me to understand.

Sorry, since I don't know much about it, I may not use the terms appropriately either. Thanks again for helping me to understand.
