A psychotherapy classic! I had one tonight. I was explaining to my T about how my dad had worked for his brother while I was growing up. My dad despised his brother, and finally he was able to start his own business and get out from under his brother's thumb. But what I said was, "My dad was finally able to free himself from my brother" instead of saying "his" brother.
Usually when I do this, I know I've done it. Tonight, I was totally surprised when my T told me what I'd said. I was like, "are you sure? did I really say that? seriously? get outta here." That was really odd. Of course, his response was to ask me, "so what comes to your mind when you think about what you just said." How the hell should I know? So, any one care to post their in-session Freudian slips, and/or share what they think about what they really mean? Hi Russ....
Freudian slips are just the greatest...LMAO....I have run over a slew of them in my years of therapy. The latest one that just makes me laugh was made by my psychiatrist. Too funny. We were talking about my SI issues...and as I got up to leave...he said: "Well...keep hacking away at it!" I shot him a look...kinda grinned and said: "Was that a joke?" Well...he blushed big time! I said..."so you make Freudian slips too...huh?" We had a pretty good laugh about it. But seriously...sometimes they do mean something. Nothing to get your knickers in a knot about...but something to give a little bit of thought to. SD ~If you don't go in...you can't find out...~ |
