There are no therapy groups in my local area for people who have survived abuse. I find this very frustrating. I asked my T why this is and she said that it's hard to get a group together and that it takes a lot of advertising, so many therapists don't bother. I understand the business end of it but it is a very needed service and it dissappoints me that therapists don't make more of an effort to offer a support/therapy group. I am thinking of starting my own peer to peer group because I KNOW I am not the only one who needs to talk about this stuff with others who have been there. I would like a group much like this forum but only in person. Any thoughts on how to go about this? I am thinking of advertising on CL. Seeing if anyone bites. | |||

Have you checked NAMI? They have a number of support groups -- I was in one for "family members of people with BPD" for a short time. We did a conference call on the phone. It was helpful, though most of the members were parents of kids with bpd. In the end, the time didn't work out because of my kid's schedules and my husband's travel, but I wouldn't hesitate to reach out to them again if I needed support. Awesome organization1!!
