Psychotherapy Classics

monte
Hi Monte... I have definitely done this. I use ideas and phrases I have learned from my T. A favorite is... just because it sounds scary does not mean it's dangerous. And... keep your head up. I don't really get annoyed when those words come out of my mouth. It makes me smile and then I feel closer to T and that is a good feeling. I'm sure your T has many wise phrases that you cannot help but incorporate. Hugs TNRead More...

Saying Thank You

TAS... I'm just catching up on things here. What a lovely post to read by you. I'm so glad you have felt helped here and supported in your therapy. I know I may have been tough on you at times (I learned that from my own T!) but it was because I believed you were working with a good T and that if you stuck with therapy you would be feeling better. Yeah, it can be really hard at times and things seem to move so slow it feels like you are standing still but things are slowly changing. Just...Read More...

the inner ear

Hey Liese, I think one of the things here is that a desk is perfectly balanced by itself, and is naturally fixed in one position. Human bodies are floppy and flexible, except when tensed, so we can move around. Without muscle tension, we do fall over (as in fainting or sudden death). If you think about how many tiny muscle movements are involved in keeping someone upright, and how fast the adjustments need to be made, you might get an idea of what the inner ear is helping with. One way of...Read More...

I need perspective

TAS, The same could be said for me. I know I'm withdrawn and not always emotionally present with my kids. If the remark was intended to make you feel like crap, then ??? what kind of therapy is that? If it was intended to perhaps motivate you, well, then, maybe I can forgive it but it was still a crappy thing to say. I'd feel awful if my T said something like that to me.Read More...

boots~

((( Fawn ))) Nice to see you back! And yeah, boots are great. I had a look at the link, that was only PAGE ONE!!!!!!! Love all the different boots, laughed to see Ugg boots there too, the old classic I used to wear those in the '70s. LLRead More...

Taking a Break

yakusoku
Hey there Anon, thanks for letting us know how you are doing. Sorry that things are still rough for you . Hope you are managing to take good care of yourself, despite the messages telling you otherwise. Sending you lots of supportive hugs LLRead More...
(((( SD )))) I can very much relate to what you’re describing, and it makes total sense that such a situation would completely freak you out, given what happened with previous T. Can I say though that Ts generally ought to be in supervision as a matter of course. I think it could be different elsewhere, but in UK that’s standard and I believe a condition of acceptance on some of the official therapist registers. As such, a T seeking supervision oughtn’t be a threat to the therapy itself...Read More...

Need Input Please

Somedays, that was beautifully explained - it makes so much sense to me. What bothers me is that when a client already knows that this is the kind of contact they need and openly asks the T, T's seem to see it as manipulative and not to be taken seriously but to be thwarted instead. A kind of Murphy's Law in therapy I'm so glad your T is working with you on this and not attempting to push you to be more 'independent'. TAS I see no reason whatsoever for your T to withdraw 'touching base'...Read More...

What songs do you listen to?

I totally go through music-less periods LL, though they are usually short lived. Sometimes I just need quiet. Period. Other times, I need anything but quiet! Sometimes I listen to music that I know will hurt, because I want to just cry for a while. Strange, I know, but I do know what sets me off, and if I am crabby and just need an excuse to cry, I have a playlist just for that purpose. Songs for rough patches..... Here's a few: P!nk - Perfect, Please Don't Leave Me Green Day - Wake Me Up...Read More...
Jane, thanks for the update. You were as informative as you could be, I suspect, under the circumstances. Good job. I missed everything that came down, so I haven't commented on anything, regarding this issue. I must say I am quite confused about it all, but I am glad that it is getting resolved.Read More...

looking for feedback on starting a "Community Feedback" forum

I pretty much agree with TAS here. I think if there is a real conflict it should be dealt with privately and mediated by shrinklady or the mods. However if it's something that's gone public on the OF, we should be advised it's being dealt with and the parties involved are being helped through the problem. just my 2 cents worth and quick gut reaction !Read More...

Thanks Liese, heldincompassion,born2write, TN - I was not ok when I typed this out. While I still feel that she could have been more mindful of what she said in her message, I know she didn't mean it the way I interperted it. Yes, she is a good T. A very good one. I know I reacted that way b/c I was so vulnerable just like born2write and TN said. I ended up texting her back (still in my very vulnerable state) - "Its fine. I know you have a life and other patients outside of me. I'm not...Read More...
