I just came across this article:

http://www.metanoia.org/choose/gethelp01.htm

It highlighted some not-so-compentent situations I've been in. Just wondered - do many of you actually get the privacy etc talked about in this article?

I know that no therapist is perfect... but I now understand better why some are so triggering!

Thanks for sharing this, SB! I liked reading it and agree with most everything that was written. I think, deep down on an unconscious level, I've always known my T was a good one. She's very safe and competent. When I was in my deepest spiral of negative transference and I questioned her, I always stayed because I just knew. I just knew she was an amazing therapist. I don't know how I got so lucky, as she's my first therapist ever and I found her online from a random search.

I think I do get the privacy talked about. My T's office is in her house, so I occasionally hear her husband walking around, which can be awkward. But he's not always there and he can't hear us talking (I'm a quiet talker anyway). My T doesn't have a supervisor, so I know she's not sharing my stuff with a supervisor. She did however see a consultant T..although I'm not sure if she still is. She told me the consultant was trauma focused. I think my T is trying to get more training in treating trauma. She has asked me once if it would be okay for her to talk about me to this consultant. I am totally fine with her talking to someone else in the field. I don't think she'd use much identifying info, and honestly, I wouldn't really care if she did. I'm sure I'll never meet this person.

I liked this though, as I think it's so important for people to be empowered when they enter into therapy. So much is unknown and scary in the beginning of therapy (and in the middle...and at the end haha) so it's really good to have this info out there for people. Thanks for posting!
