I have two artificial ones decorated now (the real one waits for a week or so) and so far the cats (of which I have four) have been studiuosly ignoring them. So it is possible to have xmas trees and cats in the same house, as for kittens though?????

I think you're right Lampers!!! That performance would put anyone off having a tree with cats around.
Perhaps I can look after the kittens Luc if you really WANT a tree cos, and I'll say this very quietly, 'we're not putting our tree up this year either, ssshh' cos we can't be bothered to get it out of the cupboard, put it up; then take it down a few days later and pack it away ready to move!

Well, we 'have' a tree but it'll be in the cupboard under the stairs in it's box. One of those cheap imitation thingies from a garden centre. We did have a real one with roots and all that we used for years but it got too big so we stuck in the ground outside.

I don't know if this helps any; but this is the coping strategy I used to use to get through Christmases on my own; well from Xmas Eve through to past Boxing Day.
Go to bed early and get up late to make the days as short as possible.
Buy all the comfort foods and drinks you like best and enjoy them.
Try not to have the TV on too much; it used to depress me.
Keep the curtains closed.
Stock up on all your favourite magazines and books and don't start reading them till Christmas.
Seriously; I found that it worked for me; but IDK, maybe you've other ideas.

Looks like a few of us will be on our own at Christmas! I'm used to it but will miss serving lunch this year with my T to locals in need - it went a bit pear-shaped last year and T is off to another state this year.
I plan on a morning walk and swim in the river for the boydog then doing a lamb roast with heaps of baked vegetables!!
Oh yes, I'll be on kitten duty for a few days as my bf will spend Christmas with her family in Sydney.
((Draggers)) I remember the defcon 4 and 5 Christmases very well!! Makes me incredibly thankful to be alone!!
