Hey all-

I'm attending the AWP- Association for Women in Psychology Confernece starting tommorow. I won't be able to go all days due to transportation issues!! =( Still, Im soooo excited.

main page: http://www.awpsych.org/
More conference info: http://awpsd.org/
if you go to schedule and browse you can check out the topics.... absolutely wonderful!!

My friend is attending with me on sat and sunday. I need her help because I won't have my scooter since she is driving and I cant push myself or use my walker becuase of my hands tenosynovitis issue. I have splints now but they are HUGE. Very comfortable resting splints covered in terry cloth but they are large and dont allow me to use my hands at all. Still they allow my hand ligaments to rest which is helping my joints when I wear them.

Anyways, looking forward to the conference and will try and report a bit on it when I finish. Smiler

the conference was absolutely AWESOME!!! It was so incredibly laid back!!! I plan to do a write up about it so once I do that, I will post it here. I hope to write a lot but it depends on things like ability to type.. lol...

It was empowering as a feminist and validating as someone who has expereinced marginilized identities as a biracial disabled woman of color. I can't say enough about AWP's conference and I just really absorbed so much power and beauty.

My favorite.. well one of my favorite sessions was on woman's resistance to violence and I will have to share more about this as it is and becoming a project that these two psychologists are doing in NJ for people around to share stories of resistance to help empower women in knowing they do, can and are able to fight back if given the choice. Not to say that if we didn't or couldn't fight that it was our fault but that if these stories were integrated into our normal range of expereince and learning, that maybe these options would come to our mind when faced with an attack and we might have the choice to take an action and are able to. It's WONDERFUL. The piece was so powerful that I actualy shared in writing a piece of my trauma that I would never share with anyone especialy strangers and yet I felt safe to do so.. .safer than I have felt in my current therapy!!! So much so that I let my friend who was with me read it and she was absolutely floored that I was sharing it and evcen had to tell one of the woman just how huge this was that I did. I still can't honestly believe it actually.. lol.

anyways.. more to come..
