whenever i watch a crime show - like law and order or CSI, or any kind of movie where there is anything violent, I have nightmares. I dream of my family but then integrate stuff from the shows into the dreams.

does anyone else have to avoid movies or TV shows like that?

I feel like the most sensitive person on the planet.

Agreed here too janedoe. My daughter jokes that I'm only fit to watch Mary Poppins Smiler Bless her, when she comes back from the cinema she always has her own rating of the film....'mum would like it' or 'not for mum' and she's pretty astute with her judgements. I avoid anything that will potentially trigger me, especially in the evening. So you're certainly not on your own with that one.

Oh Bambi - that's the worst of all....and Watership Down, the music sets me crying before the film's started.

DF - I can't cope with physical violence or suspense, that's why don't go to the cinema unless I really know what the film holds....sitting in the dark with all those people and something scary is my idea of hell. Which is a shame cos my DH loves the cinema. At least maybe now I can tell him now I'm not the only one.

Even the Sound Of Music gets to me....that bit at the end in the church crypt.......can't watch, even after 100 times of watching Frowner

I don't mind the gun shots or similar things so much, more when it's more 'planned' or just really psycho. Because I can't stop thinking of people who do this for a living, making up ways to kill someone. That is seriously disturbing in my opinion.

Starfishy, yeees, Bambi is so sad!!
I don't know Watership Down.
wow - thanks everyone! your responses and all the conversation on this has helped me feel a lot better about this. I just thought I was so alone and so weird and stuff about this.

I have two safe friend who know I avoid any very triggery movies. I have walked out of a few and just asked to go see another (and have always had movie theaters be very accomodating - just saying I can't see that, it's too much, I need to see something else...and with the cost of movies...)

I don't understand flat out horror movies. Why would that be fun for ANYONE to watch? It makes me uneasy that people can make that and enjoy it or want to see it or make movies like that.

I can see *some* action movies and do ok. Some of it is too gory and some of it is too psychologically intense. Momento and Inception are two I can't watch - and they are just too unsettling.

I love comedies and, yeah, chick flicks.

And TV, I love shows like 30 rock and stuff...

but even the news, I can't remember the last time I watched American TV news. It's so fear based and alarming and intense and so much bad.

I like NPR news and reading news - becaus ethen I can pick what I read. And NPR is so... unalarming about things... and they have some interesting and fun documentaries on the weekends or online that I love about science and stuff.

Even reality shows are too much sometimes.

All kinda weird because I don't even own a TV! but I can watch a lot online and sometimes friends want to watch something - or especially my family. My mom loves CSI and Law and Order... finally I told her I just can't see that, it gives me nightmares and makes me feel bad. So now we find ok stuff for me.

that makes me feel good.

thanks so much everyone for joining in with your experiences - helps me feel so much less alone and not like a freak or oversenstive person afterall. It's just how I am.
