Interesting article about attachment theory and its effect on the practice of psychotherapy which discusses the pros and cons of making attachment theory central to treatment.
I find it quite freaky that I found a copy of this article on my computer and read it in the past 48 hours. I love Dan siegel and schore and the professionals of their ilk. They speak to me and I am a child of their words.....
I always send links to their documents to T as if to try and convince her yet again that I am the subject of who they write about. Trying to convince someone who is already convinced......
I actually wrote to the author to tell her why I disagreed with attachment theories critics. I thought you might be interested in her reply:
quote:
Thank you for your thoughtful note. I'm very glad that you have found an attachment therapist. Healing is a multi-faceted process, and starting with attachment is a very good plan. Actually being able to attach to your therapist and feel dependent is ideal -later you can return to your independence with a more solid base and even to interdependence in a partnership.
very timely, Liese. i've been struggling and fighting for a long time with the thought of my dependence on T. i think my walls are starting to crumble, and i think he knows. so very scary, but that simple and short response from her sheds some light and some hope. thanks for sharing.
