Hello,
I haven't been on this site for a very long time so I don't know if you remember me. I wrote back in 2010 regarding huge boundary issues with my licensed clinical psychologist. I finally worked up the courage to completely leave her and I am now seeing a wonderful new therapist. She can't believe what took place over the five years that I was in therapy. I am learning now how truly wrong this behavior was and how much confusion, pain and saddness her behavior has caused me. My question for this forum is...has anyone ever filed a complaint with the state licensing board regarding their therapist? What exactly does it entail? I only left her 10 weeks ago and I am still so confused. Why did she do these things to me...why did she hurt me...she was supposed to take care of me. Also, I know so much about her personal life and I am afraid if I file a compliant her family might suffer but I also have feelings that she should be held acountable for what she did.
Any advice or help would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Empty

I am not knowledgable about how to file a complaint, but wanted to tell you how great it is to hear that you were able to leave the unethical T and have found a new wonderful T. Smiler I am so glad you have gotten the validation you deserve about the way she took advantage of you.

(((Empty))) that was so brave to leave after investing 5 long years in the relationship!!

I'm afraid I don't know the procedures for reporting abusing Ts - your current T may be able to advise!! and there are people here who have been through this and will advise. It's a hard decision to make as the ripple effect will be wide, but what feels most important to me is that that she could be hurting other vulnerable clients and reporting her may mean she gets help herself and doesn't practice until she herself is healed!!

I'm so pleased you now have a wonderful T who can help you work through all the extra difficulties that situation would have created.

Be gentle with yourself.
