quote:Putting shame into words with a trusted companion enables one to step outside it – it no longer seems to permeated one’s entire being – and allows some self-forgiveness to emerge. (Karen 1992)
I liked this bit. This is what I am doing right now in therapy.
I'm so glad!!
Oh, yes, I hear you...I wish I had someone to talk it over with instead of having me feel worse about it, but it makes me feel better knowing that you are doing it and it can be done!
Keep going!

number9,
Thanks for the link...it is going in my favorites. Just reading a little I'm beginning to understand why I feel shame just for saying what I think and then go back into my little hiding place. I hope you find a new and better T soon. You need one that can keep up with you from what I gather about you.
Hopeful

Hopeful: Exactly! I do the same thing.
Right now, just wanting to talk about all this stuff feels shameful. I use humor a lot. I want to dx myself with OPD. (Obnoxious Personality Disorder) And hide.
Echoes:
That is so encouraging to hear!
I was at the edge of looking at the whole shame thing, my T brought me there, and then decided that he could not/would not guide me through it. I think that we found some limitations in terms of boundaries and his abilities. It has been hard.
But it can be done, right?
Does one need to do this work with a T they have been in contact with for a while? In other words, is it better to work with someone with limited experience in this area, but knows you very well, or go right to an expert in this area, who may be able to offer more objective and specific guidance? One can do a lot of damage if this isn't done right. My T only knows how to use blunt instruments, unfortunately.
I'm so glad it has helped you, you deserve it!!!
hugs!
