My T lent me this book yesterday.
Why Love Matters (how affection shapes a baby's brain(
by Sue Gerhardt.
It looks to be a really useful guide to understanding
our early formative years and the consequences
for our adult lives.
Has anyone else read this? What did you think
of it?

I have bought that book and started reading it. Seemed really good/useful but I'm a bit rushed off my feet atm so haven't made great inroads into it yet. From what I have read so far I would recommend it though.

So, having read this book all the way through now; I can recommend it totally. Some of the neuroscience is a bit daunting but overall the insight it gives into how critical those early months and years are (both pre natal and ante natal) as regards the love and response we receive (or not as the case may be) from our caregivers is amazingly useful. Found it very calming to read as it makes it quite clear that my feelings or struggles with emotional regulation, are not my fault, and that the necessary re-wiring can be sucessful as an adult.
