Anyone have a decent or fairly good experience with terminating with a T?

I'm ending with my T soon. Last session we picked the end date...well...an end month not an actual day yet. My guess is that I have 3 sessions left. How in the world do I wrap up over two years of a relationship in less than 3 hours??? I'm sad that this is coming to an end.
I know I've made huge leaps in my self growth, so I know it is time.

I am going to miss my T sooooo much!!!

I will also have to look for another therapist in the next year or two, so that I can keep myself healthy seeing as I'm going into the T field.

hi athenacus,

termination is soo hard, even if it is your decision or a mutual one. i think its good to make sure you give this phase enough time. whatever 'enough time' means you can decide or you can talk to your T and decide together. i hope 3 sessions will be enough, but maybe it's good to talk about it again to make sure? also, it would be good to talk about what happens after - are you able to see your T once in a while or if you have a crisis etc.

when I terminated with my old T (of 6 years) we had been talking about it for a bit before i set the date. she left it up to me to decide how much time i needed and she was very accomodating, we had some twice a week sessions for a while. originally, i had decided to phase it out slowly, so it goes from once a week to once every 2 weeks then 3 then a month. in the end, i felt i needed those extra sessions so i kept going once a week and then for the last session it was a month later. i think it was good to have a bit of flexibililty in terms of adding extra sessions if i needed, but keeping a set 'termination date' was also good. its something really personal, everyone might need a different set up, so just think about what will help you.

it was an intense and emotional time, at times very painful, but there are also good moments of remembering all your work together and knowing you will take your T with you from this moment on, wherever you go your T will stay in your mind forever.

i hope it goes well for you!

BG, i read the same articles when i was going through it and it helped me a lot too!
