Hi Caeti,

I don't think any of us could tell if this is a good combination. I suppose if you have doubt could you consult another doctor perhaps? Just to be sure you are not getting stuffed with plenty of drugs unnecessary.
The only medication I was ever on was fluoxetine (different brands based on fluoxetine). Worked for me perfectly.

Are you still seeing a therapist?
Hi Caeti,

I'm sorry I can't give you any feedback on how any of these work, as I've never tried any of them. Have you tried asking your pharmacist or doctor about whether the combination is harmful? Either one of them should be highly educated on the topic of drug interactions. Another suggestion is that maybe there's a website where you can plug in all the meds you're on to see if there could be any interaction problems. I'll try looking to see if I can find something like that.

I don't mean to hijack your thread here Big Grin but I do have just a little question for Amazon regarding fluoxetine: When you say it worked for you perfectly, what do you mean? How did it help you? A couple of months ago I asked my GP for an antidepressant and that is what she prescribed. I filled the prescription but I haven't taken it yet...I guess I'm trying other things to see if they help first (improving diet and exercising more, etc.).

Caeti, I just posted and then saw your last post, so I just wanted to clarify something I said: I don't blame you a bit for wanting another opinion on drug interactions. I didn't mean to imply that you shouldn't get other opinions. I'm skeptical of everything doctors tell me and I'm a real pain about asking lots of questions until I'm satisfied that not only do I understand what they're talking about, but they obviously do, too. And if they were just offering a lame answer, that becomes clear as well. Asking lots of questions is a way of taking care of ourselves.

Good luck, I hope you find the answers one way or the other!

SG, I think it's the most common drug for depression. Prozac could be made out of this stuff I think. I basicly fights depression. It made me feel normal over time. I know the things are still in my head, the underlying issues are still there, but it improved my mood. I used it to fight my depression. I had no access to therapy then. So gradually, gradually I was feeling better. Now few years passed since and I decided to do therapy eventually, to put things behind me, once and for all, hopefully...
Hi all...

Fluoxetine is the generic equivalent of Prozac....same thing. It does help lots of people....but I think it is pretty rare that an anti-depressant alone will actually resolve anyones issues. I believe that most of the drugs prescribed are to alleviate symptoms...they are not "the cure" or solution to the deeper problems that we experience. Yes...some people can have pure chemical imbalances that respond to these drugs, but that is usually the exception...and not the rule.

I was on Wellbutrin for years...and it was good for me. It stablized my moods and provided me with the ability to blunt my affect. I was more socially acceptable. But...while I'm on it, I can't connect with my authentic feelings. I've tried many others (including Prozac...it made me yawn constantly...very annoying and very weird)
I stopped the Wellbutrin to do this work in therapy...but my life has become so difficult that I think I will start taking it again until I can get more stability in my home life. I really want to finish my therapy...but if I don't do something soon, I will end up finishing it alone and what good is figuring it out if I don't have a life to return to and enjoy?

Caeti....

We can't really comment on your drug combination. As you said...it is a "long shot". In reality it is more than a long shot. Even if someone else was on your exact combination, exact dosage....everyone has a unique metabolism and chemical makeup.
They are not going to have the same experience that you do. If you need a second opinion...I suggest that you look for a neuro-psychiatrist....as they tend to specialize in medication management. If that is not an option...then my suggestion to you is to add them slowly...with evaluation as you add them....otherwise you will not know which drug is doing what.
