So, after my last session with my Therapist...where 90% was complete silence...(can you say OFF DAY) I went today to see another Therapist...just to to see if there was someone else I could possibly mesh with better...

I think it is important how you present yourself to a potential client...his left shoe was untied...his office was cluttered and his trash can was overflowing...for those of us who are OCD this is very unnerving...as soon as I saw those things...I wanted to walk out...

When you first meet someone, all you have to go on is how they present themselves and the environment they present, as well.

But I stayed and couldn't help comparing him to my therapist...and I have to say that when I left his office, there were many things I was thankful for with my current therapist...that he keeps a clean office...he maintains a good therapeutic frame...he is not rattled by my emotions and he really does care...

Sometimes you do have to see what or who else is out there, but if you leave there with a greater appreciation of your therapist...it wasn't wasted time!

hi tas i have often thought about doing this i even made an appointment once when i was so sure my T was going to kick me to the curb (she didnt)but i alway also thought that the problems i have are not with my T they are in me and my T is good .so convinced i would have the same issues everyplace i go
I completely understand what you are saying Granite1. I avoided a female therapist due to certain issues and I swear to God, those very issues are surfacing even with a male therapist.

We talked about this at one point because I felt horrible to tell him that he reminded me of my female abuser (that took months to work up the nerve to tell him). I asked him if he thought I would be better off with someone else. Then I realized no matter where I went and who I saw, my issues would present themselves.

Sending a smile your way.
T.
