I have been unable to find any evidence of the true history of the "I Statement". Although I've had a couple leads (ranging from Plato to Carl Rogers) I've been unable to confirm anything on the subject, and feel I've hit a dead end.

Can anyone help? Do you know anything about the history of the "I Statement"?

Hi...and welcome salcostello.....

I guess I am a bit confused about what you are asking. And would like to encourage you to elaborate a bit more on what you are seeking to confirm.

It seems like you are looking for the origin of the usage of "I" statements...is that correct? That is...I statements vs. You statements....the assertive vs. the aggressive type of statement?

If you are looking for the origin...I personally cannot help you there. I don't think it is attributed to any one therapeutic style, technique or author. I believe that all therapies encourage the use of I statements.
