and if so how do i ask him out? i met him on train and we're strangers really but we've exchanged smiles and glances and hes about my age so how would i do it??

Omg yes believer! Tricky part, I would think, is how to do it. Have you actually talked to him? Do you know his name? Anything? Maybe he'd like to do something w/ you that doesn't involved transportation & maybe sit for a coffee? Or something? I'd definitely have fun w/ it

Well, this is coming from a guys perspective, so bear with me!!
You 'could' just ask him out right away or slip him your phone number; it might work, or it could backfire big time!! As Mudd asked; have you spoken to him? do you know anything about him at all? He might be very flattered by you asking; but equally he could be married! or have a S/O already! He could even see you a bit 'desperate'? Would any possible outright rejection make future train trips uncomfortable for you?
If your trains are anything like mine; people tend to sit in silence and trying to 'chat up' someone you don't know, would be a tough thing to do. Believe me,I've tried!!!!!
If he smiles at you or glances at you, then he knows you exist! and might be trying to work out how he can get to talk you as well; who knows?
The thing is; don't rush it; enjoy the glances and the smiles then progress to a simple 'Hi, how are you?' and go from there.
Do you get on the train or off the train at the same stop? If you do, it might be easier to engineer it so you stand together on the platform or get off the train together and try chatting then. As Scars suggested, try talking about how you catch the same train; ask him if he's going to work or to study somewhere perhaps. Often; it doesn't matter WHAT you say as much as how you say it!!
