My anxiety has been increasing this week and tonight it's almost full-blown. Does anyone else get anxiety attacks that last for hours or all say and not just the episodic ones I read about? The only way I can stop it is to take Xanax and sleep. Certainly there has to be a better way? Last week I was feeling flat and indifferent, which seems better than this because at least I was productive and didn't have a racing mind. Now, I feel like I'm backsliding and I don't know what to do. I can't keep doing this roller coaster journey. How does one stay stable while trying to heal? I wish I could see the benefits of this process because right now it sucks Frowner

Hello Raven
To take the pressure off I usually come here to the forum family - post a thread/delete/post/finally delete!!! How useful/useless is that? However I do somehow manage to vent in a safe place even though no-one gets to see it Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Other times I drink a little too much and use sleeping meds in spite of knowing they are very poor options!!!

How to stay stable? Sheesh - sorry it's part of the process to be going up and down - I've tried to take the pressure off myself and not feel stupid/guilty or whatever about the gut emotions that come up - not easy but I'm seeing improvement and not feeling so desperate!!

Is it worth it?? Yes it will be!

Raven, I'm not sure if any of that could be useful Roll Eyes

Be gentle with you!
Raven, hi.

I'm sorry you have to contend with anxiety; it is awful! I get the flat, indifferent, many times right before the racing thoughts and anxiety. I'm struggling with this as well.

My anxiety can last hours or even days at a time. If it goes from one day overnight to the next day, even my sleep is affected.

What helps me during the day is:

exercise (biking or treadmill)
yardwork
cleaning
cooking
talking to someone who is a good listener
emailing my closest friend
coming here to this forum
chewing gum
music
video game
jigsaw puzzle
board game
sitting out in the sun
grocery shopping
go for a drive
journal (helps if I catch the anxiety early on)
eat (maybe not a good one Smiler )
yelling and screaming (not at people Smiler )
medication (antidepressant and Ativan PRN)

and, to answer your title, is it worth it....

I'm not sure yet!
Just like Sadly-

I used to suffer from anxiety- for long periods of time- usually at night, very little sleep.

I too swim regularly, and do yoga. The swimming really helped, but it always returned- so I swam more often. Now it is a regular practice and it helps keep the anxiety in check.

Oh- skiing (my passion) helps too.
Going to look for snow tomorrow. NIGHT

I hope you can find some relief soon.
