Maternal transference

Hi,

I decided to ask this here. What exactly is maternal transference? Is it where you see your T or P as a mother/nurturing figure? Even when it is a male?

Or is it where you want to nurture/help your T or P?

My P just moved into another house and he doesn't have a clue about decorating type stuff.
I offered to help him in some decorating as I am quite good at it but it is probably a boundary violation. He said we will talk about it next session.

I should add he does meet patients/clients in his house so it has to be presentable.

It is probably a good idea that I do not help him with his house; as that will mean spending more time with him and I seriously do not need that! Just in not seeing him for this month has eased a lot of those feelings away from me; plus I am extremely busy on the farm getting stuff buttoned up for winter. Yesterday afternoon and today I had no thoughts of him all day. A definite improvement. I am really trying hard.

During the times when I was so obsessed with him and he was on my mind constantly, that did feel so good. But, I am seriously considering making this next session my last. It is just a dead end street I am on. He has helped me very much and I will always be very fond of him but...

I will probably change my mind 10 times in the next 10 days about quitting. Thanks, Lorena
