I'll start. I have not watched Lord of the Rings in a while- so I thought I would watch it this week. I got to thinking about how I find the end so disappointing, but had a hard time articulating it.
But this is what I came up with:
1. Sometimes the struggle feels like our real life and without it, we can feel empty.
2. "happily every after" doesn't really, truly exist like it does in the fairy tales. In the adult/real world, even after the "struggle" ...even after the battle is "won" there are many kinds of losses, people move on. (the departure of Gandalf and the elves)
3.One can't just simply go back to the "Shire" when one have been to hell and back. Unless one is in the company of others that have been through the same "battle". Those who have led sheltered lives may not want to hear our story- it may scare them to know that they don't have 100% control over their fates. Evil exists, bad things happen, and sometimes these experiences just don't make sense. So people would rather talk about the mundane, and that can be a very lonely experience.
4. Old wounds can never completely heal, but you can still change and transform, heal others, and pass on a legacy. How is this done in our everyday life?
5. Fellowships are real and a good thing, but in the end, we are all really quite alone.
Hmmm.. thoughts. About this movie, archetypes, other movies that have been helpful. All good!
