Hi, I'm in a long distance relationship between two countries and my girlfriend has seperation anxiety disorder, she gets it from me and her mother, theirs a ten hour gap in our timezones and she gets sad when I have to go, she's going to see a therapist and I'm glad but I'm scared they're going to make her break up with me because I really want to have a life with her and I would love if someone could give me information on the therapy and will they make me break up with her, thanks.

Hi FRED,
Hope you are doing fine.  Even though  it is a late reply, I need to add something which might help you. Adult separation anxiety is a type of disorder which may cause serious problems like a chemical imbalance in the brain and depression. The risk increases if the patient is a woman. There are some anti-anxiety medications and therapies like CBT or individual therapy, which may benefit separation anxiety. My friend also had a similar problem and got CBT treatment from a mental health clinic in Toronto. He is doing fine now. Relaxation strategies like yoga and meditation will also help her. Tell her to practice to be alone for some time (a couple of days). This is a great exercise to get out of ASA. Make her feel that she is not alone and support her by all means. If your love is strong, then no one can separate your girlfriend from you. Therapists will always try to treat the disorder, they won't try to separate you from her. Don't be scared.
