I entered therapy just over a year ago kind of blind. A friend had done some EMDR and loved it and was done in 10 weeks. I thought that was a great thing for me to try. I didn't realize how much muck I had and that it was going to be a long process. So my T was picked because she id EMDR along with an eclectic assortment of other " stuff" I'm not even sure of what it is. I did see on a psychology recommendation website that she specializes in EMDR, trauma, mood disorders, anxiety, and MI. well, the first four I understand and I definitely suffer from trauma and anxiety. But what the heck is MI? I tried to google it and it's Motivational Interviewing". I read a bit about it and seemed to get more confused. Has anyone heard about or know anything about it? Does anyone have a T who uses it?

Hi Raven,
Wow, I thought I had pretty much read about every kind of therapy this is, but I've never heard of that one! But the rest of her tool box sounds like she's pretty equipped to help you. My therapist was originally trained as a behaviorist but is a compulsive reader and over thirty years of practice has managed to incorporate anything and everything that works. He's definitely practicing with a psychodynamic approach, at least for clients like myself, who would benefit from it.

Hmmm...I've never heard of mental imagery. I'll have to look it up. What of read of motivational interviewing, I can see aspects that my T does. She listens and empathizes, but has me do the talking and come to conclusions on my own - week, with her gentle questioning. If I go to an intellectual mindset, she totally steers me away from that. The thing I don't think I like about it is it stays completely in the present feelings and she always says she doesn't worry about my past or memories, that it's all tied together with where I am now. Even when I told her about my rape and dads inappropriate touch, she didn't flinch and have me talk about it. Not sure yet if I like her way or not. I like her, I just question if it's best for me. BTW, I don't really know much about CBT. Can anyone fill me in on the aspects that most not like about it? I don't know if my T uses it or not.
