A new movie opened this week (in the U.S.) called "A Dangerous Method". It's about the relationship of Jung and Freud and the relationship of Jung and his patient Sabina Spielrein who suffers from "hysteria".

It stars Keira Knightly as Sabina and Viggo Mortensen (sigh Aragorn)as Freud and Michael Fassbender as Jung. From the trailers it looks like quite a dark movie, yet interesting for those fascinated by the birth of psychotherapy and how it evolved through history.

I have attached a link to a synopsis:

xoxo thanks for the update. I would go with what your T says as he seems to know you well and is a good T.

I will probably wait until it comes out on DVD to see it as it's not easy to get away from family to see a movie myself. Seems like I only see kid movies these days LOL.

I'm doing okay considering that it's holiday time and aside from childhood triggers I'm also dealing with anniversaries of oldT. I'm just trying to keep so busy I'm too tired to get upset or cry. And luckily for me my T is mostly around during the holidays... I only miss one session during the Christmas/New Years week, so it's all good.

Take care

Echo and Lucina,

Just returned from the theater and Lucina I think you might have turned it off too soon. It was a bit triggering especially for those with SA history as Echo said. The friend I saw it with wasn't triggered at all but I was.

There were just 2 scenes that I found especially triggering and I suppose if you closed your eyes during them, you might find the movie interesting. The dialog was hard to follow sometimes and I missed some important stuff, like exactly just what was at the heart of the rift between Freud and Jung.
(((ECHO))))

You were not being over-sensitive IMO. I thought it was a bit distasteful to show those scenes, especially after learning how Sabrina was abused. It made me sad for her and that Jung would do that. Frowner

On the bright side, they were able to portray a sense that the therapists really do see their patients apart from their behaviors. Like we're not all this big ball of neurosis and dysfunction.

I also loved the fact the Jung came back to achieve preeminence after his nervous breakdown. Gives me hope that I might be able to lead a productive life someday. Smiler I didn't know that anyone was able to really become productive after a nervous breakdown! Loving it!!!

xoxo

P.S. I won't ask about Charlie and Home Alone, unless you want to share.
I was thinking about going to see this film on Friday. I have learned that my OldT followed closely with Freudian Psychology and my NewT is more Jungian. I thought maybe the movie would give me some insight, but after reading of your messages I am wondering if I should just read some stuff about their different theories. Smiler
I went to watch this film last week and thought it was alright. Absolutely loved Viggo as Freud! Keira gets a bit creepy with her acting sometimes (I still have the image of her jaw printed in my brain - don't ask).

Halfway through the film the dialogue between Otto/Freud/Jung gets really boring because I zoned out and have no memory of what they were talking in some of those bits.

The freaky bit was going to the afternoon session, and I could swear all the (older) people in the cine room (we were like 7 people total) were all shrinks... they all gave me weird smiles when they were looking for their seats anyway. And they had that shrink look going on, if you know what I mean Big Grin
