Does anyone else's T use a noise maker outside their door so that people in the waiting room or in other offices won't hear the two of you? Mine flipped one on before we started...first time I've ever seen it but I like the idea for myself and maybe some other people's T's might think about one also since people have mentioned hearing other stuff going on in their T's offices, hallways and waiting areas.

My T does not use a noise machine, but the lobby does play music. I've never ever heard another patient - you can hear muffled sound but that's about it. I believe her and her office partner had significant building codes or something, she's mentioned something like that before. I feel safe there.

My other T has a room that is dangerously close to reception she does use a noisemaker, but I've heard it doesn't work. My T doesn't seem to be concerned about it, which has really bothered me.
New T does not have one. There are two seperate office's in her "office" but I have never seen someone in the other one so I think its just her maybe?
Old T did not have one and I could often hear muffled conversations in the next room and wondered if other's had ever heard me, especially during an emotoinal breakdown or something Eeker
My Pdoc has one in his waiting area. It's a "sleep aide" machine and makes a white noise sound and it's very soothing. I actually wish T had one...I wouldn't mind hearing that during session. It calms me Smiler
I went to a T today for testing. I asked him if he had a noise maker because I could hear everything his client was saying...he said something about the walls being thick and sometimes that's just the way it goes...good thing I won't be saying things like that client was talking about...I wouldn't even let myself with no privacy or I'll sit in a seat farthest from the thin office door. I went out in the main hallway so I could stop hearing that clients stuff. It's temporary for me and no counseling involved just information gathering. My T's reception area is far more adequate than this one I went to today. I'm glad my T thinks of everything!

Catalyst, I hope yours gets a replacement for her broken one.

Thanks for all your responses everyone.

I'd be running from that one too hopeful. There was one time that one of the machines must have been broken or something cause I could hear nearly every word of the conversation happening inside the office. First thing I did was tell T about it, and immediately T checked the sound machines, found the one that needed replacing, and by the time I returned for my next session, it was fixed!
