I was trying to find something new and different to read and so searched the local library catalog for "psychotherapy", keeping an eye out for unusual titles. And I found this one. Smiler

It's so cool. It's a book full of poems about the author's relationship with her therapist. It's kind of eery how many of them echo conversations we've had again and again on psych cafe about different aspects of the therapy process.

For instance, here is part of one poem where she talks about searching for information about her T and finding articles he's written:

"I have found you among the texts
(but not the textures) of your life,
in the library of your cunning
where the abstracts of forty papers
open, one by one, like small windows
partly sealed by terminology's lacquer.
They reveal you both aloof and enthralled,
a restless mind of intersecting planes."

That's from the first poem and it's my favorite so far, though I've read through about a third of the book already and there are many good ones (and some that are so-so). Most of all, it's fascinating to read such a lyrical exploration of therapy. Reading it, I've felt shocks of recognition many times, the sort of startle poetry gives you when it presents you with an emotion you've felt, but in words of greater clarity and rightness than you've ever put to the experience before.

I thought a lot of you all would enjoy it so wanted to share. Smiler
