I wanted to post this to share - maybe others have used this technique or maybe others. I that be able to use it.

My pdoc came up with a new way for me to try to manage / cope with my flashbacks.

She said as soon as I know I have one - to 'do' something to the image in my mind. Ie - paint the room in bright pink (the room I'm in, in the flashback) or add in 'the cat in the hat' into it to create a new situation within the flashback.

Has anyone else used this technique?

I haven't tried it yet (partly cos I forgot and cos the flashbacks happen so fast), but just the idea that I CAN 'DO something' is helping me feel more positive.

And I imagine it when I'm NOT having the flashbacks - which I think is helping too - helps me feel I have more 'control' over them in a funny kind of way.

It can really help when we take some responsibility to attend to ourselves and over come the feelings of helplessness flashbacks can cause. I'm glad your P and you found something you are willing to try. Sounds like the creativity element speaks to you. My Ts have suggested something similar and say it can help "rewire" the brain. As I've trusted my Ts (and myself) more I can visualize many more possibilities and regulate - it's great! Good work.
