Shadows

You straddled the fence
of want and need-
Took the road
where wandering leads

Glanced down that road
and saw the shadows play-
You walked ahead
as you walked away

Want and need
pushed away-
The fence pulled down
in a violent way

Now the shadows play
in a distant light
-wandering still-
too tired to fight.
