gads.... lol..

well 4 years when i was at UCSD.... not actively working directly on trauma issues overall.. more other stuff because I had so many issues getting my disability needs met and had to fight with alot of people at college so my psychologist there spent a lto of time advocating for me and helping me manage that stress.. guess thats still working on issues.... so most of 4 years with the exception of 3 summers...

than a year with holly

and now starting again....

.... what's short-term therapy? hahaha.... funny many articles and books talk about exposure therapies etc in treating trauma but no one really says how long it can take..... of coure there are the 'standardized' number of treatments stated to accomplish some goal but we don't know the true outcomes as it applies to overall healing... just the ones addressed by the hypothesis....

It will be 23 years next May.

Started seeing my first T for pre and post marital counseling in 1986, went for six months.

Went back a couple years later for around two years. Fled after group therapy.

went back three years later and continued until her retirement in 2006 although there were times where I was down to once a month. And there might have been another gap in there I forgot about. Big Grin

Started couples counseling with my present T in 2004 and have been seeing him on an individual basis for about 2 1/2 years.

I'm a little slow Big Grin

Somehow, with this thread, I get the image of all of us sitting in a jail cell asking, "How long you been in?" I don't mean offense by that... it's just what i thought as I was reading!

Well, for me, I've been in for 1 year and 9 months... and probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 90 sessions... I've done therapy twice before but never like this... I didn't really connect with the old t or p...

btw, totally off topic... I actually found out recently that the old p i used to see is a child molester... violated some clients and his neighbor... I always knew he was a creep but it still made me sad/angy/confused/hurt. Bastard.

Anyway, I like knowing how long you've all been in therapy, it helps with perspective.

I have been seeing my psychiatrist for about 11 years now. He did stop seeing me for a couple years and every six months during that time we had a check in to see if I was ready to come back and work.

My first Therapist I saw for four years and then went back two years later for one session and then never showed back up. She probably wonders what happened Red Face

I saw my highschool psychologist for a year during 12th grade and continue to talk to him weekly through email since I graduated. its not real therapy since he is not my therapist but its better than any other therapy I have recevied. And thats been going on since I graduated in 2001. He also comes and sees me at my P's office every six months because I convinced him I had to see him Big Grin He has been doing that for two years.

I saw a family psychologist in highschool with my family for a year and it was his fault that I got started with these other people. This is what happens to you when you refuse to talk in family therapy, they assume something is wrong and make you start seeing all your own doctors and then you fall in love with them and never want to leave Roll Eyes If I had only know in the beginning this is how it would have ended up I would have ran away from it all. But now Im in love and hooked.
