Get lots of exercise and eat healthy. When you feel good about your body and know you are doing things "right" for yourself the external validation of the scale can then be less important.
Because for some reason that number has become a powerful symbol of attaining the goal of finally being worthwhile. We work and work and expend enormous amounts of effort and energy to earn something that is already ours: our worth. So what BG said.

I wish I had something wise to say about why it means so much. But I don't. For you I get the sense it's tied to your health. And that is something to take seriously. Maybe if we can just accept that these things are important but that they aren't the final arbiter of all things good and right, then maybe they will lose some of their power over us?
