Hi Athenacus,

It's funny you bring this up. Yesterday I went with H and the baby on a mini day trip to do some local site seeing. There are some natural wonders not far from our home that we had never been to see before. Afterwards we went out to eat and did some shopping. I felt lighter, happier, and more relaxed than I generally do and remember thinking. . . "Wow, I feel good. This is fun. We should do fun things more often. I wonder what else there is to do?" LOL. So this thread should prove interesting! Smiler

But let's see. Things I do for fun. . .

I love languages and enjoy assembling a variety of self teaching materials-- books, programs, language tapes, grammar, dictionary-- and seeing how far I can get on my own. My problem with this is I'm not disciplined and consistent enough to make as much progress as I probably could if I applied myself more, but I do have fun with it and have made some strides in understanding and reading comprehension.

I enjoy board games, esp. Scrabble, Settlers of Catan, and jigsaw puzzles. I also like Sudoku.

I like to try new recipes. I quilt and sew and occasionally enjoy trying out a new project or technique. I love painting and decorating the rooms in my house. I also read a lot in a variety of genres-- poetry, psychology, philosophy, religion, novels and short stories.

I suppose that's a pretty good summary. Obviously these are mostly sedentary and solitary pursuits. I've been thinking I need to shake things up a bit by starting some hobbies that are more active and/or social. I'll be watching this thread for ideas. Big Grin
At the moment my hobbies are internet, playing guitar and sleeping.

I'm constantly on *think* mode. It doesn't stop. Frowner I'm a compulsive obsessive thinker and worrier which makes relaxing very rare Frowner.

I like to read the national geographic sometimes, reading in general and blogging. Cleaning ( I love hoovering) and getting small errands done around the house.
What a great conversation!

I'm a single mom of a 13 year old daughter. When she's not being a typical 13 year old girl - I have fun hanging out with her, usually going out to dinner or spontaneous day or weekend get-a-ways. I also have a 9 year old and 14 year old nephews who hang out with us a lot of the time. Our fun is simple and silly. We play cards, go to the park, watch movies, and act really goofy making up silly songs and dances.

My daughter and I also do a lot of family adventures with the nephews and their parents (my adopted brother and his wife). We camp, go to the mountains or road trip to new places.

I read a lot, and having time to is fun in itself! I'm an eternal student and some of the research I'm working on for my dissertation is fun. I do part-time community ministry work which really fuels my passion of community, connection and compassion.

It's neat to be able to think of the things in our lives that are fun, rather than bleak and dark. Overall, being with the kids and my bro and sis-in-law are the most fun times I have :!
Oh I love this discussion! Makes me forget how crummy things are right now...but let's see hmmm...what do I do for fun?

-jam out to the wonderful Celine Dion!
-bake
-experiment with make up and hair
-write
-theatre (whether performing or behind the scenes I love it all!)
-watch my shows which are NCIS, Bones and more recently The New Girl, Hot in Cleveland, and Spartacus
-be a lazy butt with my kitty (when Im in my hometown)
-sew (I've come to realize it relaxes me)
-LAUGH! (I laugh at pretty much everything. It literally comes as like a reflex especially when people fall or trip or have some sort of clumsy moment in front of me. Mostly everyone already knows this about me haha so they know they won't hear the end of it if they run into a wall or slightly lose their footing for a brief moment; I don't care I will laugh! But it's ok cos I laugh just as hard at myself if anything like that happens to me LOL! Laugh everyone! In my experience, it goes a long way) Big Grin
