From time to time, all of the threads are lit up as if there were new posts. Why does this happen? TN? R2G?

As if there is a new post? So sometimes this happens when there is no new post?
Everything looks all lit up to me but I don't think all those threads have new posts. It's weird.
From what I could understand, the lights mean that there is a recent post, but not necessarily new, it's still lightened if you've read it already... I don't know if it helps?
If I read threads on my work pc the lightbulb
goes out but then if I check on my phone or home
laptop they're still on because I havent read them
on that device. It must be device specific -
computer "cookies" or whatever they're called!!

I've noticed that when all the threads are lit up it's because I've signed out and signed back in. Supposedly, the threads are only lit up when there is a new post, but what I surmised is that if I log out, and log back in, then technically, all the threads ARE new at that moment
HTH?
HTH?
Thanks for all the input!!! All the threads are still lit up. I mean every single one, even ones that haven't been posted on for years. Doesn't this happen to anyone else?
Oh, interestingly enough (to me at least) I just deleted all my cookies yesterday. Hmmmmm. I have a hard time understanding that cookie thing.

Hi Liese,
I'm no techie, but I believe the cookies are the bits of your information that tell the website that you've been there before. That's how the website remembers which threads you've read, and shows you the unread threads lit up. So if you delete your cookies, that means the website can't remember you, and everything gets reset as 'new'.

.....another thing....Sometimes when I log in to a unread PM, it takes me straight to the start of the unread message....other times to the top of the page. I wonder why, almost like I have a;ready read it when I haven't
Fishy,
Not sure but usually if you get sent to the top of a page in a private message, it is because the specific post your notification email was connected to was deleted. So it knows to find the thread, but not WHERE in the thread so it dumps you at the top.

Thanks everybody for giving me insight into this! It was really helpful. The lights are starting to calm down.
