There's all these threads to do with music and songs coming up and I can't contribute because I just don't listen to music - not if I can help it. Go figure. Songs that I like just make me feel weepy and miserable, even upbeat stuff. I also get endomusia, repetition of a line or lines of a song that go round and round and round in my head, hateful! Especially if it happens to be a group like Abba I've just heard Red Face.

The one thing that did and does help me though is having a classical radio station on permanently in the background - sonic wallpaper. Very calming and soothing without grabbing my attention like pop and rock or lyrical music does. I have one radio in the kitchen going 24/7, two others all day while I'm awake so I hear this soothing music in the background everywhere I go in the house...

Am I weird, or is there anyone else out there who goes through periods where they find listening to music painful?

Sorry TAS, I've turned what should be a positive thread into a misery moan Embarrassed

Sorry, LL, your ABBA comment made me laugh! Your post wasn't a downer at all to me.

When I'm going through a REALLY rough patch and feel REALLY hopeless, I mainly listen to Christian songs like "God Loves You" (jaci velasquez), "Just Reach Out" (petra), and "Still" (Hillsong United).

If I'm not to that hopeless point but still feel sad, I listen to peppy non-Christian songs that temporarily cheer me up. I can name thousands of them but here are a few:

Walking On Sunshine - Katrina & the Waves
Bop 'Til You Drop - Rick Springfield
Why Should I Worry - Billy Joel
Don't Stop Till You Get Enough - Michael Jackson
Hold On Tight - ELO
Sussudio - Phil Collins
Feelin' Satisfied - Boston
You Might Think - The Cars
Learning to Fly - Tom Petty
You Should Be Dancing - Bee Gees

I totally go through music-less periods LL, though they are usually short lived. Sometimes I just need quiet. Period. Other times, I need anything but quiet! Sometimes I listen to music that I know will hurt, because I want to just cry for a while. Strange, I know, but I do know what sets me off, and if I am crabby and just need an excuse to cry, I have a playlist just for that purpose.

Songs for rough patches..... Here's a few:
P!nk - Perfect, Please Don't Leave Me
Green Day - Wake Me Up When September Ends, Are We the Waiting
Goo Goo Dols - Name, Sympathy
Linkin Park - Waiting for the End
Gavin DeGraw - Not Over You
One Republic - Secrets, Good Life
Anything by Stevie Nicks
Sheryl Crow - I Shall Believe, Run Baby Run

Here's a ink to the Music Page l on my blog. I use lyrics a lot. Sometimes they put into words what I can't.
