I hate that you had such invalidation from your parents. What you wrote about them sounds SO familiar!! My mom also refuses to acknowledge anything wrong, because it would cause upheaval in her life, and she compares my childhood to her own, and says "at least it wasn't as bad as hers" But it never gives an excuse to ignore the reality of our experiences. I'm so sorry you have been through that

To update, I got another voicemail today, and my mom said she's changed her mind.

Just yesterday she was about to sign the papers on a house she was moving into alone, and now she's decided to stay with him. Seems they can't exist without chaos...

Your comment about feeding the riotous penguins gave me a good smile, I love that description!!
